DESCRIPTION:Must be 21 and over to attend. \n  \n” \nAcclaimed singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson’s career spans over 4 decades of hits. He has received numerous awards including the Grammy Living Legend Award\, NARAS Lifetime Achievement Award\, Honorary Doctorate (Howard University)\, Kennedy Center Honors and the National Medal of Arts Award from the President of the United States. He has also been inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame. \nBorn and raised in Detroit\, Michigan\, Robinson founded The Miracles while still in high school. The group was Berry Gordy’s first vocal group\, and it was at Robinson’s suggestion that Gordy started the Motown Record dynasty. Their single of Robinson’s “Shop Around” became Motown’s first #1 hit on the R&B singles chart. In the years following\, Robinson continued to pen hits for the group including “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me\,” “Ooo Baby Baby\,” “The Tracks of My Tears\,” “Going to a Go-Go\,” “More Love\,” “Tears of a Clown” (co-written with Stevie Wonder)\, and “I Second That Emotion.” \nThe Miracles dominated the R&B scene throughout the 1960’s and early 70’s and Robinson became Vice President of Motown Records serving as in-house producer\, talent scout and songwriter. \nIn addition to writing hits for the Miracles\, Robinson wrote and produced hits for other Motown greats including The Temptations\, Mary Wells\, Brenda Holloway\, Marvin Gaye and others. “The Way You Do the Things You Do\,” “My Girl\,” “Get Ready\,” “You Beat Me to the Punch\,” “Don’t Mess with Bill\,” “Ain’t That Peculiar\,” and “My Guy” are just a few of his songwriting triumphs during those years.  \nHe later turned to a solo career where he continued his tradition of chart-topping hits with “Just to See Her\,” “Quiet Storm\,” “Cruisin’\,” and “Being with You\,” among others. \nHe remained Vice President of Motown records until the sale of the company\, shaping the label’s success with friend and mentor Berry Gordy. As someone once stated\, “No work of art is ever finished. DESCRIPTION:Exhibition: Fearsome Fable – Tolerable Truth – Climate Follies: A collection of short plays \nSaturday\, April 22\, 6pm – 8pm \nIn the interactive installation\, Fearsome Fable – Tolerable Truth\, Indiana-based artist Tom Torleumke makes a powerful statement on the wasteful nature of our relationship with the earth and envisions what an alternate future could be\, if we chose to embrace it.  Viewers are greeted by a contiguous mural of scenes depicting overpopulation and its resulting neglect and abuse of our natural resources. His successful stint with TGT included the release of an album titled Three Kings\, which hit No. 3 on The Billboard 200 chart\, and a tour that had fans snapping  up tickets for concerts in major performing arts centers.\n\nGinuwine\, born Elgin Baylor Lumpkin\, is a native of Washington\, D.C. who grew up listening to the music of Michael Jackson and Prince\, which inspired him to begin performing. After he was discovered by the R&B group Jodici in 1996\, he was signed by Epic Records and released his debut album\, titled Ginuwine… The Bachelor. It spawned the hit single “Pony\,” which is a good example of his influential brand of hip-hop soul. Among the other hits in Ginuwine’s catalog\, which inspired young stars like Ne-Yo and Chris Brown\, are “Differences\,” “In Those Jeans\,” and “So Anxious.”\nNEXT \nNext are an American R&B trio with members R.L. Huggar\, T-Low and Tweety. NEXT was discovered in their home town of Saint Paul\, Minnesota by Producer/DJ KAYGEE (of Naughty By Nature). After Signing with KAYGEE’s then newly formed label DIVINE MILL & Possessing a sound similar to Dru Hill and BLACKstreet\, Next scored mainstream success in the late 90’s and early 00’s\, \nThey scored a number one hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with the Kaygee & Darren Lighty Produced “Too Close” (1998)\, later covered by the British boyband Blue in 2003 and reaching number two in the UK. It samples the 1980 song “Christmas Rapping” by Kurtis Blow. Next’s follow up singles “Wifey” (2001)\, and “Beauty Queen” (2001) (also Produced By KAYGEE) reached the Billboard top twenty. Both of the later singles were featured on the group’s platinum selling sophomore album Welcome II Nextasy \nIn 2002\, R.L. released his solo debut RL: Ements which featured the singles “Good Man” and “Got Me A Model”. without Direction from longtime collaborator KAYGEE\, The album however was poorly received both critically and commercially. \nIn late 2005\, Next’s record company Interscope Records released details of the band’s first album in four years\, which has yet to be given a title. The song mentioned an alliance with G-Unit but R.L. stated that he recorded the song a long time ago and that Next was not joining G-Unit. DESCRIPTION:Exhibition: Fearsome Fable – Tolerable Truth – Artist Talk \n  \nIn the interactive installation\, Fearsome Fable – Tolerable Truth\, Indiana-based artist Tom Torleumke makes a powerful statement on the wasteful nature of our relationship with the earth and envisions what an alternate future could be\, if we chose to embrace it.  Viewers are greeted by a contiguous mural of scenes depicting overpopulation and its resulting neglect and abuse of our natural resources. By physically engaging with and moving mural panels\, gallery visitors can change the view from a dilapidated wasteland on one side – to the reverse side’s pastel imagery of a brighter and healthier tomorrow. \n  \nFree Admission \n  \nThe exhibit continues through April 22 with these special events:\n \nClimate Follies: A collection of short plays\nSaturday\, April 22\, 6pm – 8pm
